ART BLAKEY-STRETCHING (J ROCC EDIT)/DIGABLE PLANETS-REBIRTH OF SLICK (COOL LIKE DAT)
Number 29 in the Originals line-up sees Art Blakey and Digable Planets back to back. Catching the jazz-hop wave of the early 90s, Digable Planets' Butterfly dug deep and pulled out Art Blakey And The Jazzmessengers' 1979 album 'Reflections In Blue'. The bassline / horns from B-side track “Stretching” were sampled to great effect on their 1992 smash 'Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)'. At 24 minutes and 10 seconds there's no way the original woul fit on a 45, but luckily the one and only Funky President, J Rocc of the world famous Beat Junkies drops a fresh 45 edit for us.
